Youth Supporting Improved Community Sanitation
In discussing human progress, it must be mentioned that the consequences of new discoveries have both a positive and negative impact on the environment. Indeed, human existence unfolds in close connection with nature. The main condition for a harmonious development of people is health, which depends on environmental factors. Only in a clean, beautiful, unpolluted environment can a person learn about the balance between his biology and his spirit.
It is know that, in order to ensure harmony between man and nature, to be its protector, to prevent and combat negative effects of one's actions upon nature, for example, chemical pollution of the environment and mass deforestation, people must respect the laws of nature. However, each human activity leads to the production of waster matter. It appears in the process of industrial production, agriculture, construction, transportation, but most of all it is produced by household activities. Statistics, gathered by me and and my collaborators, based on our waste production habits, show us that an average household produces approximately
What is the state of affairs when it comes to sanitation in the
At present, 80 percent of the population are already beneficiaries of this aquaduct. However, this fact shouldn't cause us to forget the village wells that are still waiting to be rehabilitated.
Taking a walk through the village, we identified sanitation as among the greatest problems that must be urgently solved. Even though three authorized waste disposal areas exist, we can see unauthorized waste disposal zones as well. Waste of all sorts is thrown on the streets, over the fence, in ravines, in fields and in green spaces. All of these waste disposal areas constitute a laboratory for the growth of different microbes, which, through different methods, can affect people's health. This particularly disastrous situation lead us to create this project to solve Bravicea's sanitation problem, and transform polluted areas, into green spaces, especially erosion zones near ravines and the local liceum.
Models / teaching strategies used:
Working in collaboration, information exchange, critical mind in making decisions based on knowledge of the facts, context, authentic, real world, a seminar workshop.
Results:
• We have a clean location
• Satisfactory health of the local population
• An attractive village with trees and flowers
• An unpolluted environment
• Clean water, soil and air
• Waste materials disposed of at authorized locations
• More green spaces and flower gardens
Impact of teaching:
The biggest impact was the fact that a project through a short-term students and teachers were able to work together and learn a tremendous amount of information. Working together in an interesting way so the students have absorbed more than would have done it if he had just read textbooks. Teachers and students find international projects and learn how to adapt to their needs. They are also familiar with different curricular models and learning environments.
Feedback:
- It is very important for students to collaborate with peers and teachers through new information technologies because in this way broaden their horizon of knowledge in each field of school discipline.
- Only the active involvement of students in the development of various projects will lead to solving problems facing the community
Plan of Activities
• We will organize a community meeting with the help of the APL, local businesses, health center representatives, education officials, members of the ONG "Arcasii lui Stefan," members of CLCT, and the club "Ave Terra," where we will discuss the ecological state of the village and the need for everyone's contribution in the solution of this problem.
• We will organize school assemblies to inform the students about the danger of water material and to encourage them to actively participate in sanitation improvement activities.
• The local population will be continuously informed about the village's ecologic state through radio broadcasts, slogans, public meetings, seminars, and trainings, appealing to the their conscience with regard to the environment.
• We will organize sanitation improvement activities, beginning with household, then others, including streets, ravines, and wells.
• We will change sad, alarming landscapes of garbage into green spaces, flowers gardens, and clean water and air.
• We propose purchasing containers in order to create the possibility of collecting and sorting waste material and their subsequent recycling.
In order to achieve this, we will appeal to APL, local businesses and the national ecologic fund.
We will develop contracts with the SRLs "Uniplast," "Metalferos, "SA "Fabrica de sticla," and "Glass Container Company," SRL "Sălcioara Vascan," which will receive waste and recyclables.
The containers will be placed on concrete slabs in several areas of the village in order to facilitate the collection of waste material and to prevent their random disposal.
Sustainability
• The involvement of benificiaries
• Ecological education of citizens
• Organization of seminars
• Debates
• Informational bulletins
• Project updates delivered through mass media
• Regular involvement of citizens in arranging and maintaining works
• Increasing local ecologic funds through citizen contributions
• Rigorous administrative measures

Salut, frate!
